Post #7 Photo Stop Motion Animation

I want to create a stop motion animation with my skills. I know that I am good at taking photographs and good at using technology like Photoshop to alter them. So I am going to stick to my skills to create an interesting stop motion animation.

I found a few more videos that have inspired me to dig deeper and be more creative.

Inside the creative minds: Stop Motion Polaroids

Process Enacted: by Jordan C Greenhalgh

From here I am thinking that I should have photos on my bedroom (white) wall of places I have been with people. Then I jump through each photo to relive it's memory. The photos will be spaced out across the wall to allow me to walk to the next photo. Each new photo will be stuck on the wall, so in the end, the video camera zooms out to see the wall covered in hundreds of memories.

I could use photo frames on the wall?

I found this image on Google that inspires my Stop Motion Animation. I can imagine each person moving, walking in each other's photos and throwing things to another person. I like that the photos are black and white. Perhaps in my video, the images all start as Black and White images until the character jumps into it, changing it to colourful images.

Today's class we learnt about RIGHTS and EFFECTS for SOUND.
Sound is an important component in our Stop Motion Animation as it affects our mood and message.

I am thinking about creating my own sounds and noise so that I can get creative.

A few thoughts for my Stop Motion Animation…..
What is my message? Materials? Camera techniques? Sound? Ideas? Mood and how? Title? Subject? Synopsis? Method?

I have drawn this storyboard to refine my ideas. I am thinking that I should use a finger to draw the photo. The photos change as the person in the photo walks. I can use Photoshop to alter the images,  change backgrounds or change colours. The finger could possibly touch and slide the photos to change outfit or scenery. In the end of this storyboard, the lady runs away as it is all too much for her.

Refining my ideas further….
I was thinking that possibly the finger is God. God supposedly decides your life so why not use a finger and images to portray what God does. In this story board, God continues to tap and slide the images to decide how many kids the woman should have, what clothes she wears and how her life ends. This story could have a message that God has a path for our life.

With time limitations and resources, I think this idea is far too complicated. I would like to incorporate an upbeat 30 second song into my animation to elate the mood.

I am inspired by this Stop Motion animation that uses images to illustrate the story. I am thinking for my own project I would like to use developed photos as well. As the project I am doing is only 30 seconds longs, it can't be as detailed as this video.

This is my first attempt at storyboarding, I am using a stick figure character as I haven't refined my ideas yet. I am thinking of incorporating different stylist techniques such as using photos, drawings and a real hand. I am intending to use a light box with a camera facing directly on it, as this will look professional and clean.

Film techniques for Stop Motion Animation MIND MAP (things to think about).

In class, we learnt about the four important components to film making: Mise En Scene, Cinematography, Editing and Sound.

Within each component there are different techniques that I can use for my Stop Motion Animation. I have created a Mind Map on Adobe Illustrator to think about what techniques I can use for my own animation.

In class I found a few inspirational Stop Motion Animation Videos:

NO NOODLES

This short film incorporates humour, colour and shapes. There would have been a lot work put into this short film as the characters changes colours and shapes throughout.

The sound effects and music are very effective in this film, such as the splashes and dinosaur roar. I am inspired to do something similar, using the material 'Fimo' (or clay) as you can do a lot with it.

STOP MOTION BISCUIT CAKE

This short film seems to be homemade due to the quality of the film but it doesn't disappoint.

This is like my idea of animating a recipe, where the ingredients have characters and move themselves. The music was very effective as it kept the audience engaged throughout. There was a lot of work put into this video from the marshmallows stacking on the scales, the caster sugar walking to the bowl and to the egg changing expressions.

MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON, TWO

This video is a sweet four minute Stop Animation Video that personifies the shell to talk and walk. This video uses humour, sound effects, camera techniques, an unique voice and everyday objects in an interesting way to engage the audience.

This film is fast paced compared to the other Stop Motion Animations.

WESTERN SPAGHETTI

This is an interesting Stop Motion Animation on how to make Spaghetti. The creator uses everyday household items, such as: A 'Rubix cube' for Garlic, 'Post It' notes for cheese and rubber bands for pasta. It inspires me to animate a recipe like this, as it is quirky and interesting.

COFFEE TIME

This is a quirky animation of the process of coffee being made with the materials paper, cardboard, string and clay. The short film incorporates sound effects and music to effectively accompany the video. There has been a lot of effort put into this video, to ensure that it flows well. I am inspired by this video to use different shapes, colours and materials. I could even use my own hand in some parts like this video did.

SPILLING THE BEANS

This short 46 second video seems more achievable for me to do for this assignment. Although there is much less work, it is still effective. The creator of this video uses the coffee beans to create different words and symbols.
I like the simplicity of the video, although there wasn't much of a story.

Entry #1 IDEAS!

Here I have created a mind map of my ideas that I am thinking about. I am very interested in working with 'Fimo' as you can make any shape with many colours. I also would love to incorporate lollies, as they are colourful and can be created into many other things.

My five initial ideas include:
 - Inside a Sandwich
- How a baby is made
-Life as a Vegetarian
- You are what you eat
- Animate a Recipe

I want my 30 second Stop Motion Animation to be funny and tasteful, yet clean and simple.
